WWF
in
Quang Nam Province
,
Vietnam
Hoi An is a coastal town within Quang
Nam
province. The forests
to the west of Hoi An form part of the Central
Truong Son Conservation Landscape, and are critical for
conservation of
Vietnam
’s natural heritage. The area is vital for the survival needs of
threatened species and indigenous communities. The MOSAIC project
is a partnership between WWF, and the Vietnam Forest Protection
Department in Quang
Nam
province, to meet twin goals of nature conservation and secure
local livelihoods.
In rural Quang
Nam
, the main ethnic groups are the Ka Tu, Ta Rieng, Mo Nong and Ca
Dang. These local communities have traditionally lived in and
around the provinces forested areas, home also for species such as
the newly-discovered Saola and Douc langur.
WWF Goal
The forests and rivers of
global conservation significance in Quang
Nam
province,
Vietnam
, are managed to ensure the social, economic and environmental
values of the
Central
Truong
Son
Mountains
are sustained for future generations.
Hai Café
Hai Café is sponsoring WWF’s work and helping us to pass
on information about the efforts to protect the forests and assist
ethnic communities, no more than 50km from where you sit now.
Please enjoy the food, the atmosphere and charm of this cafe and
Hoi An, and spend a moment to look at the information and pictures
we have posted in the cafe interior.
The Embassy of Spain also supports this exhibition.
A focus of our work in the coming months will be on
responsible tourism, and to help develop ‘ecotourism’ options,
practice and guidelines for Quang
Nam
province. Tourism can bring benefits for both local people and the
environment, but only when it is well managed and monitored. Each
tourist has a role in setting a correct standard of acceptable
behaviour and in influencing how tourism develops in an area. Be
open-minded, buy and behave responsibly, and be aware of how you
and your actions affect the people and environment of
Vietnam
.
For more information on our activities in
Vietnam
and elsewhere, and on good natural areas to visit whilst you are
in
Vietnam
, please look at the information in this café or visit our
website www.wwfindochina.org.
